Upon receiving an uncorrected proof of the holistic book, Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom by Acharya Shunya, I found within its pages a treasure trove of advice on how to live an organic Ayurveda lifestyle. With the turn of each page, I kept thinking how rare it is to read a how-to book in which the lessons are so uniquely and gently interlaced throughout Acharya Shunya’s rich storytelling.
The context of each chapter, is based on the author’s daily practices with, observations of, and teachings from her grandfather who was a spiritual master, yogi and healer. He taught simple ways to align with nature, and in doing so, disease and suffering from those who sought out his advice seemingly disappeared. The stories she shares of her early days are deeply inspiring and spiritual. They evoke feelings to contemplate and experience optimal health by aligning one’s life with nature and harnessing the power of balance and “spiritual harmony that lies within us.”
According to the author:
Ayurveda proposes two methodologies toward approaching health. The first is preventative and promotive and the second is restorative.
The author includes a vast number of simple recipes that will bring balance to the body and mind. She also discusses the importance of morning routines, giving thanks to the beauty of each new day, dental hygiene, sleep, sex and exercise. Every aspect of the book is easily understood and can be applied with relative comfort within the Western Culture. Achieving balance of the mind, body and spirit is the apex of Ayurveda healing.
Over the past few months, I have found myself referring back to the author’s Ayurveda teachings. I highly recommend this book for those who may have a desire to learn about or delve deeper into the Ayurveda lifestyle. I highly recommend this book as not only a fascinating read, but as a constant resource throughout ones’ own journey.
