January Learning & Living
I love this time of year – a perfect time to recharge and get reacquainted with what has been going well and what hasn’t gone quite as planned. Failed miserably
I had planned to have the entire 2nd half of the school year meticulously planned for all 5 of the villagers, but things have gone slightly awry. I read Twilight instead.
So here we go with what I have thus far:
Amos Fortune: Free Man

Day 1
Themes of Amos Fortune
Respect – At-man was held in the highest regard as a prince of the Atmunshi tribe. However, that sort of outward respect was lost when he became Amos Fortune. Does respect from others have the same meaning as respect for one’s self?
Love – Just as the Atmunshi tribesman had an enormous amount of respect for him, he truly loved his people – they were his family. Love sustained At-man during his terrible ordeal of being kidnapped by the slavers. Amos knew he had to be strong for his people that he had to keep them safe during this that terrible time. Amos could have fought against the slavers, but he knew if he fought, many of his people would be killed. Amos chose to remain a supporter and counselor to his people rather than put them in a position to lose their lives. How do you show love for your family?
Freedom – “It does a man no good to be free until he learns how to live.”

“She leaned against him, hoping to hide the deformed leg that–but for her father’s love–would have caused her to have been drowned as an infant. Only the sacrifice of the imperfect to the God of Life could assure protection for the perfect.” ~ Africa 1725, pg. 5

The Resolutions 2009 Edition
Yes folks! Here they are once again … the handy list of useless resolutions only carefully planned to make certain December 31, 2009 is a piss-poor day full of wallowing, self-pity and loathing.
Resolution #1
Read a book every week – hence the goal of 52 books (I’ll settle for 30 if some qualify as BFF or more affectionately known as fatties).
Resolution #2
Schedule an outdoor adventure at least one day each week.
Resolution #3
Laugh everyday.
Resolution #4
Start a family business.
Okay. I think I can safely say that I can handle 4 resolutions, or not! I don’t want the last day of 2009 to be such a horrid day!
Weather Lore
Weather lore: a collection of proverbs, sayings, and rules concerning the weather (1869)
Nature Notes: January 3, 2009
The day began as a warm but slightly muggy morning. The sun was brilliant and I could have sworn today was a day only found in the spring. However, as the hours passed by, the clouds cast their doubtful outlooks on the rest of the afternoon. Sun gave way to fog and the breeze had a tinge of nippiness.
Nature Notes: December 31, 2008
Beautiful day today. Air is crisp and clean. If it wasn’t winter, I’d swear it was autumn.
