The Proposal

Sandra Bullock never ceases to impress me. However, this time it is not with her amazing range of emotion or her quick wit — it’s her rock hard abs! Yes, I am shallow – but I really want those abs! I saw an interview she gave recently and she mentioned that she cut out the carbs. She also runs, does kickboxing, Pilates, and rides her bike whenever she can.

So, her new movie, The Proposal, was as funny as the trailers portray. Margaret is a career-driven publisher. Her employees fear her and send instant messages to alert office personnel of her whereabouts.  Only they refer to her as “it” or “the witch is on her broom.” She tends to look down upon others and sees herself as perfect.

Margaret is Canadian and is about to be deported, so she concocts a story about being engaged to her secretary, Andrew. To convince the immigration officer that they really do love each other, they head to Andrew’s hometown in Alaska where Margaret discovers that she does not really have a good grasp of who people really are, when she discovers that his family is wealthy.

The Paxton family welcomes Margaret and she becomes overwhelmed with emotion at their love and generosity. The movie is well worth the money! It’s a fun “go see it” night. You won’t be disappointed.

One of the most amazing, humorous, and inspiring shows I have ever attended – and there have been a few! I believe John Tesh’s concert far surpasses even Broadway productions.

Throughout his remarkable career John Tesh has assumed many roles: host of Entertainment Tonight and a nationally syndicated radio show; singer-composer; musical director; and entrepreneur. The Emmy winner, who captivates loyal fans with his uplifting songs about family, faith, and love, has taken the entertainment industry by storm with more than a dozen New Age best-sellers, Christian music hits, Gold records, and acclaimed Contemporary Jazz albums. Tonight, John and his 5 band mates take the stage for a high-energy evening of his best-loved music, comedy, and “intelligence for your life”.

NY June 2009

Other than amusing road signs and bumper stickers (see me tweets for specifics), nothing exciting happened on the drive from PCB to NY.  I did stop at a hotel in PA, which is an unusual occurrence. I truly believe the recent stressors caused me to not be able to have the stamina to make it back home in a single shot.

One of the must haves when going home is Carvel Ice Cream. I am not a fan of frozen milk-sugar, but Carvel gets me every time! I know it calls to me to enjoy a vanilla cone smothered (not sprinkled such as they do at the Cold Stone Creamery) in chocolate sprinkles. Ahhhh …. shear delight in every lick!

I was also able to see my ex-husband. This was an important and cleansing visit. We divorced under the terms of physical violence in the home. I needed to show him (as much as prove to myself) that  I was no longer scared.  Unexpectedly, he offered a heartfelt, and sincere apology for hurting me. I learned many things that I never knew had happened during our marriage that did not explain the abuse, but did account for the erratic behavior. For that, I am eternally thankful. I also discovered that we are polar opposites. It is Sandra Bullock meets Jesse James all over again!

We went up to Rome, NY to visit my cousin and her family. The girls are the cutest. I helped out as much as I could with the tag sale, then we went to Sylvan Beach on the shore of Lake Oneida. The kids really enjoyed themselves there. It is one of the nearly extinct beach amusement parks.

The day before I relented to return to PCB, my van broke down on a very busy road. I was mildly elated that I did not have to leave as planned.

It's sooo broke!
