Lumpy
I have what some might call a full figure. I have been plagued with a more than ample bosom that I at times, feel is more of a curse than a blessing. Especially during a time such as now. Sure, there is a certain amount of male attention because of the load I carry on top. It can be nice, flattering, and even give me a boost of self-esteem on a particularly low day. But no amount of attention can override the deep angst one feels when she fails a mammogram and ultrasound. To be continued …
How Does Your Car Run?
I’d like to discuss the thyroid and how important it is that this butterfly-shaped gland runs smoothly and maintains an optimal RPM for your needs.
After my 6th baby broke me, one of the tests regularly run on me was that of the thyroid. Obviously something was not quite right; I had gained a lot of weight with baby #6, and never could seem to shake it off. I was suddenly depressed (even experienced my first bout with PPD). Stamina was some distant memory. Just exactly how did I get it all done?
Even more depressing to my endless list of ailments was the fact that my thyroid was always “fine”. My thyroid levels clearly displayed a downward progression over the past two years to where it currently rests – on the dividing line between fine and not fine. Thyroid levels for the average 40-year-old woman should measure between 0.4-4.5. So, I ask, “Fine according to what or who’s scale?” Who says fine on your scale equates to fine for what my body needs to function at an optimal level? So tell me, what exactly were the doctors measuring? Were they simply looking for the proverbial thump on the head? Something easy to spot, which required little thought or stepping out-of-the-box? As in, Ding-dong stupid, it’s the thiiiroid! Duh!
UGH! What exactly does the thyroid do that causes well-meaning but short-sighted physicians to tap just the outer edge of this complex hormonal gland? The thyroid controls metabolism, regulates body temperature and heart rate. It secretes iodine relates hormones (those that keep the knobby boobies at bay), and thyroxine (T4). T4 is an interesting animal. There are two types made: free T4 and not free T4 (yes this is a simplistic explanation). The T4 that is not free – well, there’s nothing we can do about that. We are most interested in the free T4. Why? Because we can learn two things from it: (1) Is there enough free T4 to actually do the job of making triiodothyronine (T3); and, (2) How does it distribute between T3 and Reverse T3 (RT3)?
Some doctors may go as far as testing T4, but few go beyond scratching the surface of the thyroid and actually test for the distribution of T3. This is where you will find the actual truth about how well your car really is running.

I’m sure my daily routine will evolve as I progress through the various stages of newly acquired knowledge, but for now, this is my regimen.

On Monday, I will be visiting with a nutritionist. He will be able to tell me if I need iodine (as I have very large and fibrous breasts and I do not use table salt), plus other supplementation such as a pharmaceutical grade multivitamin. I am also going to ask him about Resveratrol, Testosterone gel, and Three Lac.
I will also be adding in exercise this week. It is the first time that I feel like I have slightly more energy than it takes to brush my teeth, so yeah – things are looking up!
As far as how I’m feeling: Still crappy. Although the heavy fog has lifted, I am still exhausted and just not my self. My mannerism has moved from sweet and cute to the extreme of being snarky. I am very quick to make comments that are short and sometimes rude. For example, upon entering Office Max today, the associate asked if I was able to find everything okay. My reply to her was, “Well since I just stepped through the door, I don’t know yet. But I’ll be sure to let you know if I find that I do need help!” Yeah – well at that particular moment, it seemed an appropriate reply. Shocking, isn’t it?!
I have discovered a non-malignant lump in my right breast. At least that’s what the letter from Gulf Imaging said. However, there was enough concern that I should revisit in 4 months. I’m not waiting that long. This sucker is very painful and it is huge!
