2009

This week’s meme comes from Nik Durga of Spatula Forum.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
I had a hysterectomy. Vacationed in California, Maryland.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I made four resolutions and didn’t even attempt at keeping one of them! I’m sucha loser!!!

3. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
We will continue our annual tradition of a filet mignon dinner, followed by setting off fireworks on the beach, and then watching the ball drop on the boob tube.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
YES! My Blackberry Curve was caught in a torrential downpour. It had a mighty hard and fought till the very last flicker of life.

5. What countries did you visit?
I didn’t leave the country this year, although I did travel extensively up and down the east coast throughout the year.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Ironically, quality family time is what I want more of in 2010. 2009 was an emotionally charged year and ironically, even though we were together most of the time, we were not together much of the time.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 25th. Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died on that day.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
My biggest achievement was becoming knowledgeable about BHRT.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Having the inner strength to overcome adversity.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yes, the hysterectomy — which made everything else about me outta whack!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Blackberry Curve — I don’t know how I ever survived without one!

12. Where did most of your money go?
Books, of course!

13. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Crazy– Gnarls Barkley

More Gnarls Barkley music on iLike

14. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Laying in the grass, looking up at the sky, in wonder and amazement.

15. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Being on the computer.

16. What was your favourite TV program?
Brothers & Sisters and House.

17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Nope … never … not me!

18. What was the best book you read?
Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Peeps

19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Hmmmm … okay, I’m stumped. NEXT!!!

20. What was your favorite film of this year?
The Blind Side. It was such an inspiring movie.

21. What did you do on your birthday?
Good Lord — I can’t even remember what I did yesterday, much less what I did back in April. Ummm … probably ate a generous slab or two of Carvel ice cream cake. I think I’m salivating.

22. What kept you sane?
The beach and sand in my shorts. A good shot of Jack did the trick at times, too.

23. Who did you miss?
My BFF.

24. Who was the best new person you met?
Hmmm … I met many peeps this year, but none stand out above another.

25. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
Listen for the songbirds.

FOR TODAY
The 28th day of December 2009

Outside my window is the stillness of the night. The air is crisp.

I am thinking about my resolutions for 2010.

I am thankful for chocolate chip cookies and milk!

We are off this week in the learning room.

From the kitchen is the smell of chicken and dumplings simmering on the stove.

I am wearing fuzzy pink socks.

I am creating a prayer table.

I am going to be kind to myself.

I am reading Going Rogue.

I am hoping that my next mammogram on Wednesday will be okay.

I hear my son singing when he thinks no one is listening.

Around the house are children from other mothers — my 2nd children — their home, too.

One of my favorite things is the Haight Ashbury sandwich and a Poinsettia drink at Liza’s Kitchen.

A few plans for the rest of the week: A skate boarding competition tomorrow. Just me, my books, my coffee, and my blanket.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing (based on the movie a saw this past week) …

Caganer of the Queen

I think I just might have to be offended! On second thought — nah!queen

A ceramic figurine called ‘caganer’ of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, is seen on show at the Santa Llucia Fair on December 21, in Barcelona. Statuettes of well-known people defecating are a strong Christmas tradition in Catalonia, dating back to the 18th century. Catalonians hide caganers in Christmas Nativity scenes and invite friends to find them.

A Martha Stewart Wanna Be

Inspired by the movie Julie & Julia, I figured that I have as much opportunity to become great as anyone else. And what better way can one aspire to greatness than by emulating truly fine china?

Martha Stewart, for all the criticism she receives, is a woman to chase after. She is, in my opinion, one of the few women in this world worth a second look.

So who am I? A freelance writer and Adjunct Professor of Mathematics – two worlds that collide in that of themselves. In my ‘other’ lives, I am a home educator and Roller Derby chick! I’m not particularly creative, but have a corny sense of humor. I, too, am looking for a challenge (as if I don’t already have enough challenges of my own being).

I cannot even pretend to be able to cook for 365 days straight as Julie Powell did (being out of the house 5 nights per week prevents that novel idea), but I will cook from Martha’s masterpieces the other two days. If we’re lucky, I will feel froggy enough to post pics!

This too, can be a very good thing! :)

An Irreverant Message

This is a very funny message from Santa and his elves, but truly irreverent; so don’t call if you are prone to being offended. I’m just sayin’!
